US Department of Defense (DOD) employees spent over $1 million tax dollars on strippers and casinos from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014, according to the Inspector General’s 19 May report “DoD Cardholders Used Their Government Travel Cards for Personal Use at Casinos and Adult Entertainment Establishments.”
US military and DOD employees spent $3.2 million in casinos in total, but roughly $1 million constituted personal use.
Employees used government cards to charge $952,258 in casinos and $96,576 in strip clubs. The Washington Post reports “The numbers would have been even higher, the watchdog found, but some credit-card transactions were declined.”
DOD employees spent $3.4 billion tax dollars on travel overall.
